Procedure of the ski touring basics package
Day 1 - Technique & emergency training
Morning: Ski touring basics technique unit:
- Walking technique with touring skis
- Skinning up and skinning down
- Use of climbing aids and crampons
- Easy downhill skiing with skins
- Turning techniques (basics and variations)
- Correct use of ski poles on the ascent
Afternoon: Avalanche safety & emergency training:
- LVS check
- Using the avalanche transceiver (signal, coarse and fine search)
- Correct crossing out with the avalanche transceiver
- Efficient use of the probe
- Effective shoveling technique in an emergency
- Emergency procedure: Alerting, acting, communicating
- Communication with the rescue helicopter
Day 2 - Guided ski tour
- Joint ascent with application of the techniques learned
- LVS check before the start of the tour
- Terrain assessment, safe choice of tracks, tips from the pros
- Feedback and conclusion of the tour
